Following our vote to approve a Plan of Consolidation for Or Chadash & Temple Emanu-El, we learned that both Or Chadash and Temple Emanu-El were eligible to apply for the second round of the federal Payroll Protection Program (PPP) which (if successful) would provide us with funds for our personnel costs. Because the application requires documentation of the prior year’s financial situation and how an organization has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kol Ami would not be eligible.
Our attorneys have advised us to apply for the PPP loans separately, as Or Chadash and Temple Emanu-El; and to maintain our separate organizations until we have received any PPP funds (if we are approved), expended the funds as intended, and (at a minimum) have applied for forgiveness of the loans. We have been advised that we can still file the articles of incorporation for Kol Ami, but that we will need to delay our consolidation until we have each satisfied the requirements of the PPP.
Meanwhile, we will continue to meet together as the “Kol Ami Planning Committee” and we’ll continue to join together for services and other events, including our 2021 High Holy Days Services. We will have a town hall meeting on Sunday, April 18th at 4:00 p.m. to talk with you further and to answer any questions. The link to register for the zoom town hall is below. We’ll keep you informed as we adapt to changing circumstances.
