The Importance of Synagogue Membership
|
|
|
|
The synagogue is the very heart of the Jewish world. It is the place where we make room for God, and open our minds and spirits to new possibilities and expectations of ourselves. Rabbi Eric Yoffie, President of the Union for Reform Judaism called it, “the home where Jews build community, reinforce the bonds of the Jewish family and keep alive the three things on which our existence depends: Torah, Jewish study, avodah, Jewish worship, and g’milut chasadim, acts of loving-kindness.”
Many of our member families come from a variety of backgrounds. At Congregation Or Chadash you will find the place where you may find comfort and refuge from life’s insecurities, it is the place where you will find a supportive community, and it is the place where you can learn more about the values that will make a difference in the life of your family, your community and your world.

Membership Activities at Congregation Or Chadash
|
|
|
|
CARING COMMUNITY COMMITTEE enriches the support provided by the Rabbi and Cantor in their clerical functions. To this end they provide both phone and home visits; hospital and nursing home visits; transportatio8n services (doctor, shopping, etc); bereavement (meal after services); new baby services; and Chevra Kadisha (ritual preparation of the dead). This committee has been active since the beginning of Congregation Or Chadash.
CHAVURAH COMMITTEE The Chavarah Committee fulfills the religious, personal and family needs of congregant families by helping those with similar interests to connect with each other, thus creating a “family within a family.”
OUTREACH COMMITTEE The Outreach Committee connects with the unaffiliated by offering programming and activities in the community at large.
FRIEND RAISING COMMITTEE The Friend Raising Committee provides social events that are designed to create community and share fun times together. Whether this is a lunch with a speaker or a night at the Gaslight Theater, a food time is had by all.
INTERFAITH COMMITTEE The Interfaith committee reaches out to those in interfaith relationships, either with immediate or extended family members. Our participants may be interfaith, in the process of converting, or may already have completed conversion The Outreach Committee connects with the unaffiliated by offering programming and activities in the community at large. |

You can raise funds for our congregation every time you do your regular grocery shopping. Congregation Or Chadash can earn $48,000 per year with only 200 families using eScrip at Safeway and the many other merchants and restaurants that participate in the eScrip program. You can use your Safeway club card, credit or debit card at most stores to help raise money for the congregation without having to write another check.
Registering : 5 Easy Steps

2. Search for Congregation Or Chadash on Alvernon Way.
3. Proceed with steps to fill in your information. Register all credit cards you use for shopping. Note that Safeway also requires registration of your Safeway Club Card.
4. When you use these credit cards for participating retail stores, Congregation Or Chadash automatically gets a percentage!
5. Check the website under Southwest for participating merchants and participating
restaurants. Note that Safeway requires presentation of a registered Safeway Club
Card each time you shop. Some restaurants are Chads, Ventana Mexican Kitchen, El
Charro, Las Cazuelitas, Sur Real, McMahons, Shlomo and Vito's, Little Anthony's
Diner, and many more.
